Lately 02

Nothing beats sunny mornings.

Some new things in my closet. My brother couldn't believe the fact that I bought a sparkly sweater filled with cats. Sparkles and kitties, two of my favorite things.

Trying self portraits. Hmm...

Adding yarn to my stash and thinking of many designs that I want to knit soon.

Keeping my desk neat and pretty with some lovely things from some lovely people.

I'm welcoming these babies to their new home. Books + me = ♥

This kitty is keeping my month organized. -That's the second cat related thing in one post if you are counting.-

Pretty flowers. Just because they are plastic doesn't mean they don't deserve some love too.

 Favorite new shoes.

Saturday morning knitting sesh.

...and there's no picture but I've been working out at least 6 times a week for the past month and a half so I'm pretty proud. Hope you had a lovely week!

Spanish Flan Recipe

I've always left all kitchen duties to the expert (my dad) but every now and then I enjoy baking a little something here and there. Coming from an Italian family, we are big on food, especially desserts. One of my staples is the Spanish flan which I have made many times and this is my perfected recipe. Like I said, I am not much of a cook so this is probably a one time thing on the blog. Enjoy!

Ingredients
3 cups of milk - 2 cups of sugar - 8 egg yolks - 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Melted sugar
Melt 1 cup of sugar in a heavy skillet or small pan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar turns a light golden brown like you can see above. Immediately pour it into 6 custard cups and let it sit while you prepare the rest.

Preparing the Flan
Separate the egg yolks from the whites and put the whites aside. We won't be using them for this recipe but you could beat them until fluffy and use them right away - you should not let them sit afterward. There's a good video on this here.

Meanwhile boil the milk and add 1 cup of sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract right before it's done. As soon as it's boiling pour it into bowl with the eggs yolks and whip it.

Pour the mixture into the caramel-coated custard cups.

Baking
Pour hot water into a rectangular pan and place the six custard cups inside. Carefully take this into the oven and bake at 300º for about an hour (maybe more). You'll know when they are done if you stick in a knife or toothpick and it comes out clean. You want your flan to be sturdy and relatively solid not creamy and thin like pudding.

Cautiously remove the pan from the oven and set the custard cups to cool over a wire rack. Once they are cool, cover them with plastic film and leave them in the fridge for 6-8 hours. To serve these, invert the cups onto a serving dish, allowing the melted sugar mixture to drizzle over the top.

As a bonus I like my flan with a bit of creamy milk caramel on top which you can find at most grocery stores. Et voilà!

"Cry Wolf" for Synaesthesia Magazine

This is quite a departure from my usual girly and fashion-inclined themes but it was exciting and interesting to work on. It's my second illustration for an online magazine and it's also my second one based on a fictional piece of work. This time around it was an illustration for Synaesthesia Magazine based on a short story called "Cry Wolf" by Jac Cattaneo.

In other news,  I have recently began working on some really exciting things for Maddie, that will soon be revealed .Can't wait!

I wish you all a lovely weekend.

Inspiration: as if!

The internet is all about images. We are bombarded by thousands of images daily and it can get to the point where we just scroll by them aimlessly -sometimes even for hours - on sites like tumbr, pinterest, facebook, you name it. I was doing exactly this recently when I was stopped in my tracks by Wildfox's new look-book. I love the inspiration drawn directly from one of my childhood favorites, Clueless. As soon as my eye caught a glimpse of the first image, I was stunned. I loved it so much that I knew I had to share it.

You can see the whole look-book here and, if you are feeling nostalgic, you can watch the trailer here. After this, a re-watch of the movie is in order.

Happy Friday!

Invitation illustrations

I forgot all about these invitations that I designed and illustrated for ejovo.com last year right after these. The previous ones where all mostly about the holiday season and this installment brings everything from general invitations to bridal showers and birthdays, along with baby showers and first birthdays.

See them all here:
